Barking dog
About one year ago my next door neighbour acquired a small dog . Then began a nightmare from which I have not yet emerged .
I complained about his barking dog one night when I was trying to sleep at midnight ; the barking continued from about 11.30 pm to about 1.00 am . I could not sleep because of the continual high pitched yapping from his back garden , which is just a few feet from my back garden .
I got up ,knocked on his front door and told him he had to do something about his dog because I couldn't sleep . He called me a wanker , tosser ect and told me that I should sleep at the front of the house .
I complained to the environmental health department of the local council .After that , he stopped sending the dog out into the garden to bark at midnight but a few months later I found some dog exrement outside my back door . I then regualarly found food ,including eggs , flour, lard , jam , pickles had been thrown against my back windows . Then old bottles and bags of dog excrement were thrown into my back gardens . One evening when I confronted him about the dog doing its business in my front garden , he subjected me to a tirade of abuse . By then I had installed cct cameras / microphones in my front gardens . I called the police who listened to it and offered to arrest him . I agreed with this , but then they did not arrest him . Nothing happened and when I phoned the police I was told that it was going to be dealt with Eventually , the community officer phoned me after she had been on holiday for two weeks .
Let's just say I realised that there were certain financial disadvantages to my trying to persue the action and that the police were reluctant to do anything .
If you sell a house in the UK you have to reveal any disputes with neighbours . Of course , you can not reveal disputes , but then you run the risk of being sued for a very large sum of money for the next 6 years .
The law is weighted in favour of the anti-social individual and even if the police had arrested him and even if he had been found guilty of harassement he would still be living next door and he would still be able to do things when Iwas not there .
I have nearly had a breakdown over this : I think the law needs to be changed so that it does not favour the anti-social person .
